This is a video from Monday, May 30 showing the first run of our FSAE race car. There is a lot of work left to do on this car, but this is great to see.

UCI’s Center for Engineering Science in Design, Toyota, Millenworks, Kruse Technology Partnership, McCarthy Design Associates, Airflow Systems, and Southern California SAE worked together to make the 2011 Energy Invitational a success at Willow Springs Motorsports Park.

The UCI Delta racecar has a CNG 450cc engine combined with a short-distance electric drive.

Third year Mechanical Engineering majors joined a team of Electrical Engineering majors from UCI to prepare an all electric vectored drive system for the UCI Energy Invitational. The drive systems for Gamma is shown here.

The vectored drive system consists of 15hp DC motors connected one to each of the rear drive wheels and controlled though a specially designed set of motor controllers.

First and second year Engineering students at UCI have prepared a car for entry in the 2011 Energy Invitational. Here is a photo of their car.

It is powered by a 12hp Briggs and Stratton engine through a CVT and chain drive.
